I started the day with a bit of writer's block. It happens often and it usually means I really need to stretch my imagination to get my daily promotional gifts blogs out. But not today.
I visited one of my favourite article marketing submission sites, EzineAricles, and was hit right away by their logo. I must have seen it hundreds of time but today it hit me. The logo reads EzineArticles and has an illustration of a fountain pen. A
s I write this article it is the busy Christmas season and promotional fountain pens are selling like crazy. Something made me dig a little deeper.
I went to Google and typed 'writers' into the image search field.
Just as I predicted - and even in our modern times where everyone who is anyone uses a computer daily - all of the pictures were of pens. Each and every picture for the keyword 'writers' was of a pen. There were fountain pens, ball pens, rollerballs - you name it - they were all there.
This is significant if you are considering gifts for your top clients and employees. Chances are you do not want to give everyone - nor can most afford to give away free computers. But promotional pens are and always have been very popular promotional gifts.
We live in a very interesting time to be in business. You may have employees who have gone from being on reception to being your company blogger. Many of you will have customers who are fighting their way out of the recession by blogging daily about their products and services.
More often than not they will be typing their blogs into their own computers. Oh how times have changed!
I remember back in 1984 when I went to university. Back in those days, most students did not have nor did they know how to use a computer. I actually wrote all of my essays by hand and paid a typing agency to type them for me so that I could hand them for grading. Do typing services even exist any more?
The point I am trying to make - perhaps a bit long winded - is that we all still think of the pen when we think of writers or for that matter writing.
From well known logos to images on Google, the pen is that all important part of the writing experience. Even if it is not used to write the majority of our day to day work any more, the pen is still used every day to jot down notes and messages.
I cannot thing of a better gift for a top client or employee than a promotional metal gift pen. There are hundreds of options out there from Parker to Cross to Lamy.
If you have a customer or client who writes daily - even on a computer - the perfect gift for that person will be a promotional metal gift pen.
Think about it... Wouldn't you like to be given one?
