Formed in the late 1980's in Boston, Massachusetts, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones created a brand of ska that was mixed with punk and hardcore, and would not become very popular until nearly 10 years after the formation of the band.
After many years of playing the local New England clubs, and trying to tour outside of the North East, the band started to make waves. Throughout their history, the ska-core giants released a variety of records and finding which ones are the best can be hard on those that do not know much about the genre.
This article is meant to shine light on their discography, and give new and old fans a little bit of knowledge as to which are the top records from one of the greats.
3. Devils Night Out - The first major record from the band came out around 1990 and was quite good. The band would inject metal guitar riffs, walking bass lines, and dark vocal styling to create a truly unique musical experience. To this day, the record receives much praise from critics and long time fans alike. You'll be hard pressed to find another record that melts so many genres into the formula made popular by Jamaica in the 1950's.
2. Let's Face It - In 1997, the band became mainstream darlings with the release of Let's Face It. Sure, the album plays like a super-polished record, but if you peel away the layers of studio mastering, you get a hefty record with plenty to sing and dance to. The band managed to once again break the mold, while creating radio friendly tunes and generating more and more fans.
1. Pin Points and Gin Joints - The band would quietly release a record that would serve to be a true sequel to the 1997 platinum album. In between the years, the band would release several singles, another full length, and a live record, but wouldn't capture the hearts and ears of their fan base until this 2009 release. The independent record was recorded in between Dicky Barrett's commitment to the "Jimmy Kimmel Live Show", where he serves as bandleader. While this record hasn't sold millions, nor has shown up on many top 10 lists, it rings as one of the best new records by a third wave ska act in modern times.
For music fans looking for something more than what is played on the radio, and haven't really looked back since the late 90's alternative scene, these three records will help get your feet tapping and your heart singing.
