The Art of Walking In High Heels

Stiletto heels are loved and admired by women the world over, however that is not to say that these women necessarily wear heels themselves, there are problems with wearing heels, and this puts many women off. For instance, walking in heels can be dangerous, broken ankles abound. Alternatively, women may be reluctant to wear heels because they think they cannot walk in them, and we all know how ridiculous people look wearing shoes in which they cannot walk!

If you are reluctant to where heels, do not despair, there are techniques you can learn to help you walk in stiletto heels, and here they are:

Firstly, you need to perfect your balance. The best way to do this is to stand still on a flat surface in front of a mirror, notice where you are off-balance, and modify your posture accordingly; you probably stand off to one side, stand-up straight and centre your body. This simple step will perfect your balance when wearing heels but will also improve your posture in general.Next, start walking a little in your heels, notice where your gait carries you off in one direction or another, and throws you off balance. Practice walking in a way that is symmetrical, so that no part of your walk throws you out of sync.Keep your gait as tight as possible at either side - do not swing arms or legs too far out to the side. To begin with, walk slowly, until you have worked out the walk that works best for you - the mirror will allow you to judge how fluid your movements are, until you have perfected the walk, you should continue to practice. As you practice, walk as naturally as possible, turn round, walk in different directions, as you would in the outside world. It is no good to learn to walk perfectly in a straight line, without learning to turn or side step, that is not going to work in real-life, is it?When you first practice walking in stiletto heels, you should use the smallest height you can find. As you perfect all the different requirements you need to walk naturally, such as the ability to turn, etc, you can progress onto higher heels. After a few months (yes, it can take a long time to perfect your walk, there are new muscles to develop and aches and pains to overcome - pain will disappear as you practice using these, thus far, underdeveloped, muscles)you will find that you can wear much higher heels, 4inches will be a doddle! When you first choose to wear heels, you should opt for ones with a wide circumference, they will provide better balance initially, and then as you get used to them, you can begin wearing narrower heels.
